Surat Mukker Engineering Leadership & Advisory
For founders & heads of engineering

Fractional CTO and engineering leadership

25+ years in engineering, 15 of them leading it, and an AI platform I built solo that carried two products. I make sure systems are secure, scalable and audit-ready, and that the debt AI generates never outpaces the speed it gives you.

AI changed both how software gets built and what software is. I wanted to know firsthand what that actually means, so I built a product with it end to end, and the platform underneath.

What’s different about leading teams that build with AI?

Adopting AI is the easy half. Adapting how the team works, and holding quality and durability while it changes, is the leadership half.

The holding part isn’t new. At Plume, release delivery went from multi-week delays to a three-week cadence, and stayed there while the engineering organization doubled. AI changes how fast that has to happen, not what has to be true.

What are you working toward?

Pick everything that’s true. Most people pick more than one, and the combination is usually the interesting part.

Ways to work together

However much of my time you need

Not ready for a full-time engineering leader? You can still get that judgment on the decisions you’re making right now, the ones that are important to get right today and won’t need an expensive redo a year from now.

01

Advisor

A fixed-scope read, or a standing call

Best for:Early-stage teams.

Focus:What’s blocking you, what’s risk versus noise, and what to prioritize. You keep the document either way.

02

Fractional CTO

One or two days a week, embedded

Best for:Post-seed companies needing hands-on direction.

Focus:Judgment inside your team rather than a deck about it. We stand the system up together, and hand it over to your team to run.

03

Full-Time Lead

Full-time, leading engineering

Best for:Companies ready to scale and stabilize.

Focus:Leading engineering as part of the team. I own the bar and the delivery, and stay hands-on as long as the team needs it.

And if what you need isn’t me, I’ll tell you that early, and help you find the right person.

Let’s talk about what you’re working toward.

On a quick 15-30 minute exploratory call, I can tell you whether it’s something I can help with, and how. If it isn’t, you’ll hear that on the call.

or tell me what’s going on

Goes straight to me, no third party. I read every one and reply personally.
